Starting November 7 through November 28

After finishing my plein air painting, Light Northeast, I showed my subjects the painting and asked if I could get a few pics of them under their umbrellas that were flapping in the late summer onshore breeze making for a very comfortable day on the beach.  By this time, they had been dipping into the beer cooler and didn't mind a bit.

Being lucky enough to live near the coast and be able to plein air paint there or take some good pics for studio painting is a true blessing for an artist wannabe like myself. One of my favorite painters and influences is  Twentieth Century Impressionist Edward Henry Potthast who became famous for his beautiful sun filled paintings of beach activity along the shores of Long Island in the early 1900's. Capturing the beauty of the sea and complimenting sand beach is inspiring art in its own right, but adding the festive human activity brings the work out in a whole new dimension that allows the viewer to smell the salt and feel the breeze as if she or he were right there. Potthast was a master at this and true inspiration for anyone who enjoys viewing or painting beach scenes.
