You either know the feeling or you don't as there is no other like it. Catching a beautiful medium sized peeler with a long right as your buddy yells at the top of his lungs seeing you set up in the curl just like he did the wave before is a true euphoric moment - stoked!
I talked with a friend yesterday who had just bought a painting of egrets flying through the marsh. The artist had told her that the particular piece represented freedom. I liked that, and thought about it for awhile. What could I paint that represented freedom to me. It didn't take long as I remembered a photo that I had seen a long time ago in Surfer Magazine of this surfer paddling out and cheering his buddy on as he leaned back on his hog near the top lip of a beautiful wave promising a long smooth ride. I remember tossing the magazine to my buddy Mason Brugh who was lounged on the couch beside me after a surf session of our own. We both agreed that one photo summed up the whole surfing experience. Anyone who has been lucky enough to surf at all let alone in conditions such as this knows that he or she is totally free of any troubles or thoughts as long as the tide and wind keep it pumping.
