Marsh Mellow

11 x 14

A commissioned painting of Edward and Marcy Mann's 78 year old wooden flat-bottom skiff.  Sunken for decades and with a tree growing through its hull, The Tarp was finally rescued by the Manns and painstakingly restored with an engine under the center console to propel the beauty through the shallow sound water on the south end of Roanoke Island in Dare County. After bringing home a first place in the wooden boat show in Manteo, The Tarp now is used by Edward and Marcy for slow relaxing getaways after work and on the weekends.

After looking at several pictures of The Tarp, I couldn't help to agree with Marcy, that the one of the boat beached on the sand and out of the wind with the early fall marsh in the background was the most accurate depiction of a laid back mellow weekend afternoon in the shallows behind Wanchese.  I think she summed it up completely when she wrote under the pic, "Nothing like 'progging' in the marsh looking for treasures".
