Going Down the Road Feelin' Bad

16x20

I can't honestly say I was going down this road and feelin' bad, but the song, as it is performed by either Doc Watson or the Grateful Dead, sure is fitting on a pretty fall afternoon drive in the countryside of Bertie County, so I could not think of a better name for this painting.
Because of the September flood we experienced here this year, the trees, with all the extra water, have retained their leaves longer than usual  producing some of the prettiest and most vibrant colors imaginable. I can't remember a prettier fall around here. This road, as it snakes between cotton and bean fields and down to an old bridge over a cypress swamp is one beautiful stretch to roll down your windows and take the long way home on a beautiful November weekend afternoon.
