My friend Charlie Creighton once said that there is no other place he'd rather be than Northeastern North Carolina during picking time. I have to concur. The fall colors with the smell of freshly dug peanuts in the field on a cool crispy fall afternoon is undeniably hard to top. This is a painting of Liberty Hall with this year's bean field out front ready to be picked. This beautiful house was given by my great great grandfather, John Peter Rascoe, to his daughter Lucy Rascoe Outlaw and her husband Captain Edward Ralph Outlaw of Company C of the11th North Carolina Regiment. He surrendered with General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House and when the papers were signed he walked all the way back home to Liberty Hall in Grabtown, NC. Captain Outlaw's great granddaughter, Vicky Leggett and her husband Joseph live in the house today.
