Cute Little Redhead

11x14
When the swamps freeze over around the Roanoke and Cashie River basin heading out on the open water to find ducks can be a good move. This morning Jeff Willis, Chip Warren and I did just that at the mouth of Salmon Creek. With little wind we didn't see a whole lot of ducks, but any time I can watch the sun rise over the Albemarle Sound it's a great day for me. Diving ducks such as bluebills, buffleheads, and ruddy ducks can offer a fun alternative to the usual swamp bag of mallard, teal, and wood ducks, but the rare prize of divers is the redhead and the more allusive canvasback.  Since I couldn't put one in the bag I came home and put one on the canvas.
