Three Kings

This is an older post of a painting from last winter. I broke the golden rule and went back to it after signing it. There was something with the background I didn't like.  I went back over it with oil.

Last Winter on a crisp morning hunt, assorted birds flew down over our spread providing us with some fun shooting on a cold and sunny January Saturday. Joined with the occasional goose honk the unique whistles of the drake teal and the drake wood duck and the more recognizable quacking of the drake mallard can provide some very entertaining winter time "swamp music", but being able to see these three kings of the Southern low land tupelo sloughs making their rounds among their feeding hens is the true prize.
