One of the most inspiring pieces of art to me is John Van Hammersveld's movie poster of Bruce Brown's "The Endless Summer" with three surfers silhouetted by a magenta sky and a yellow sun. Brown gives the viewer some breathtaking sunrises and sunsets as well throughout the sixties 35ml classic film. My favorite is towards the end with Robert August and Mike Hynson sitting on their boards while waiting for a set in front of a sinking sun with the theme song playing in the background. I've always wanted to paint something like that and happened across a profile picture of a friend of mine which immediately caught my eye with the same spirit as many of the film's scenes. As I looked at it, I could hear that same song by the Sandals with the fender stratocaster's slippery wet reverb as the subject gazed at the rising sun with drink in hand.
