Pickin' Time

16x20
Mixed Media on Canvas

Pickin' Time usually means the Fall harvest of agricultural crops, but a mess of boiled crabs freshly caught in the Albemarle Sound and piled up on a legless dry rotted wooden table that is balanced on top of cinder blocks on the sandy beach of Salmon Creek allows for an alternative definition of the phrase  - especially when it has some freshly picked Summer time sweet corn to go with it.
I wish I could say this was a painting of a recent catch, but it has been too hot for me to even think about setting and pulling a crab pot and then sitting over a pot of boiling water. Putting some crabs on canvas in the confines of my cool aired basement studio is the best substitute I could come up with until this heat breaks.
