Last Day of Summer

I don't have a clue what the official last day of Summer is, but for me it is always the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend down at Nags Head.  This year it was the prettiest day that I can remember. A light Northeast wind coupled with leftover swells from Hurricane Irene made for one of the most fun days on the beach that I can remember. Even we "adults" got out there and banged around in the surf as the kids had a blast on the boogie boards and skim boards.
I guess the age range among the kids was around four to twelve or so - give or take a few years. For most of the boys who "don't like girls" they sure did seem to put a whole lot of effort in their technique on the skim boards when the girls walked out on the beach.  After a while the boys went to another activity and left the  boards in the sand away from the tide line. Slowly, some of the girls inched towards the boards, and finally one picked one up and gave it a go. The rest followed and within a hour they all had it wired and were not letting go of those boards for anything.
It was really a thrill to see a whole new generation get hooked on such a fun water sport. Too bad it was the last day of Summer.
