Purple and Gold

In recent years with higher grain commodity prices and an obvious recession proof demand for perfume, farms in Bertie County light up this time of year with golden wheat and beautiful purple sage.  Finding a shady dirt path cutting in between the two leading to an old tobacco barn is a jewel of a find for plein air painting and probably a warm fuzzy feeling inside for a Pirate Fan.

Fred Saunders found this pretty late Spring spot along with other artists Jaquelin Perry and Jane Perry. I was privileged enough to tag along with these heavies and try out this scene just south of Colerain near the Chowan River.
