Parked under the shed at Big and Little Ed Rawl's farm headquarters is this John Deere picker combine ready to roll for the upcoming wheat harvest. Like fighter pilots name their planes, Little Ed has named this picker Boomquisha. Boomquisha has picked beans, milo, and wheat on our farm as the Rawls' contract pick for many farmers in the Bertie Area.
With its head detached and freshly washed and serviced, the front of this big green machine was shinning just right in the morning sun yesterday when I drove by looking for something to paint. I pulled in and set up ready to tackle some more heavy equipment. When Big Ed drove up later in the morning he wasn't quite sure what to make of an easel and painter on top of his weigh scales and grain unloading grate. This was the best spot I could get in the shade.
