In Ken Auster's Intellect and Passion there are many beautiful paintings of inside restaurants and bars in San Francisco. Ken explains that he spends many hours just photographing patrons and waiters in these establishments to come up with ideas about future paintings. I've painted a scene in Hammerheads Oyster Bar before, but I wanted to try another one after studying a lot of Ken's work and while in the middle of one of his online classes, I thought it would be fun to try another one of Hammerheads in between assignments.
I'm always taking pictures either with my phone or camera to the point of being obnoxious, but it is well worth it to capture a moment in time that seems to define the essence of a bar, restaurant, street, etc.
