Three Drum Band

20x24
Oil on Linen
SOLD

Like the old timers in Bertie County that used to go quail hunting with coat and tie on, these Pasquotank gentlemen wore their business best to drum fish in Nags Head.  For many years I've seen an old black and white photograph in Verna Perry's cottage of these drum fishermen, and I couldn't wait any longer to try it
and come up with my own color based off the values already given to me in the picture.  This captures the soul of Nags Head even today - wading out on a cool crisp fall day and surf fishing in front of old weather grayed cottages.

My cousin Vicky Leggett, provided me with the names of these guys.  Some have been cropped off for my painting - Jerome Flora, Dr. Wm Parker, Alex Outlaw, Pat Twiddy, John Rascoe Outlaw and Jerry Hughes
