Not really exited about our workshop painting location in the morning, I decided to just paint a cart path leading into some trees on the greens of the Greenbrier Resort. One of my workshop classmates, Mary Hurst ( http://maryhurstartist.com/) walked swiftly almost running by returning to the gallery to retrieve a panel or something she had forgotten. As she approached the shade of a big tree, her red jacket illuminated in the morning sun, and the painting took on a whole new dimension as I yelled to her to please stop for a second.

The Fentress family was kind enough to let me stay at their beautiful house in Lewisburg, and I had just recently talked with John Fentress on the phone. We were talking about a variety of subjects, one of which being some stories from our old high school VES.  David Liggett's name came up who went there and later to Carolina where he and his brother formed a band named Mary on the Dash. I guess this was fresh on my mind as it fit perfectly as a title for this painting.
