Tootie's Willow

11 x 14
Oil on Linen Board

Painted on location at Swift Level Farm in Lewisburg, WV and touched up in studio

For a first time shot at painting mountains and hills, getting to do so on Tootie Jones' beautiful Swift Level Farm ( http://www.theswiftlevel.com/historic_places/estates_horses_cattle/historic_properties.aspx) was
the best intro I could imagine. Swift Level is a five generation cattle farm / B&B just outside of Lewisburg, WV on Herns Mill Road. I took some artistic liberties with this one as the barns really have green roofs, and I exaggerated the mountain range somewhat, but the willow tree and the watering hole caught me eye while driving in and they remained as I saw them.

As a fresh graduate from college, I lived in West Virginia for almost three years, and my weekends were spent in the Greenbrier Valley and New River Gorge canoeing and hiking the beautiful streams and mountains. Going back there recently was a homecoming of sorts and reminder of just how much fun one can have in the eastern part of this state - not to mention its breathtaking beauty in any season of the year.
