A few more of the many barnyard animals from Spruill Brothers Farm in Cooper Hill, NC.  It was a cold day, and these ladies were huddled up basking in the mid day sun.  They wouldn't sit still long enough for me to paint them on site, so I had to studio paint them from my pics that I took that day.

Whenever I see a pig such as one of these, I can't help to visualize a cooked hog's head with an apple stuffed in its mouth resting on a silver platter on Verna Perry's dining room table. This was the decor on that very table about twenty years or so ago for meet the parents night for her daughter's soon to be fiance, Hosea Wilson. The room was full of family anxious to meet the tardy boyfriend who was still in route from Greenville. Finally, he arrived and walked in the dining room where everyone had lined up to greet and shake hands with this fine young man. With the exception of a tall boy Budweiser in his left hand, the honored guest met and spoke to everyone with precision etiquette protocol. After the last hand was firmly squeezed and the last "So nice to meet you" was rattled off, Mr. Wilson turned to the Hog's head, reached over and plucked its left eyeball out and popped it in his mouth chasing it down with the remaining Budweiser.....There's always one in every group.
