Watch Your Manners When We Get to The Hay Pile

12 x 16
Oil on Wood Panel
Will be On display and for sale at T Gallery, Raleigh on March 6

How many times can one hear it from a fourteen and twelve year old - "I'm bored".  It'll convince you to actually think you can go outside and paint in single digit temperatures. I gave it a try the other day at Spruill Brothers Farm http://spruillbros.com/ , but I was no match for these belted galloways that thrive in these sort of conditions with their waterproof and insulating coarse "belt" that encircles their entire body.  Bred to adapt to the harsh winters of the Scottish Highlands,  Spruill's Belties were right at home with a cold northwest wind cutting through the pasture, and even this newborn calf was confidently trying his legs out in the cold snow and ice.  I didn't last a minute before I decided to take some pics from the heated cab of the pickup and return home to paint in the studio.
